Is CPR Training FSA/HSA Eligible?

CPR training is not eligible for reimbursement with a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA).

Why Is CPR Training Not FSA/HSA Eligible?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training courses are designed to teach individuals how to respond to cardiac emergencies. While this knowledge can save lives, the training itself does not diagnose, treat, or prevent a medical condition for the individual taking the course. Because of this, CPR training does not qualify as medical care under IRS Code Section 213(d).

According to IRS Publication 502, educational classes are only eligible if they provide therapy for a diagnosed medical condition of the account holder or their dependent. General first aid or CPR training does not meet this standard.

What’s Not Covered?

  • CPR certification courses (online or in-person)

  • First aid or emergency response classes

  • Training programs for workplace, school, or community certification requirements

  • Recertification fees for CPR training

LMN and Exceptions

CPR training is not eligible under any circumstances. A Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) cannot make these expenses reimbursable.
