Is a First Aid Kit FSA/HSA Eligible?

Yes, a first aid kit is eligible for reimbursement with a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA). These kits are considered essential medical supplies under IRS Code Section 213(d) and are explicitly listed as eligible expenses.

Why Are First Aid Kits FSA/HSA Eligible?

First aid kits are FSA/HSA eligible because they are classified as medical supplies that help treat or prevent medical conditions and emergencies. They contain essential items, such as bandages, antiseptic wipes, gauze, and medical tape, which are specifically designed to address injuries or illnesses.

The IRS guidelines and SIGIS standards recognize first aid kits as a necessary medical expense, as they provide immediate care for cuts, scrapes, burns, and other minor injuries. The inclusion of first aid kits as reimbursable expenses ensures individuals are prepared to manage unexpected medical needs effectively.

How to Purchase a First Aid Kit With an FSA/HSA

Browse FSA/HSA approved first aid kits on the buyFSA website or in the buyFSA app. Click the shopping cart icon below the product image to add the product to your cart. Once you’ve completed your purchase, access your cart through the shopping bag icon on the top right to proceed to checkout.

  • Date of purchase or service rendered (the services rendered must be within the FSA’s plan year)

  • Description of items/services rendered

  • Itemized list of products purchased with UPCs (if procuring items at a retailer that doesn’t accept FSA cards or if using a regular credit card)
