Year by Year FSA Contribution Limits (since 2013)

The annual FSA contribution limits have increased $550 between 2013 and 2023. We've put together a quick chart to help visualize the changes over time. You'll notice a large jump starting in 2021 to 2022 where greater FSAs saw greater year over year increases.

  • 2022: $2850
  • 2021: $2750
  • 2020: $2750
  • 2019: $2700
  • 2018: $2650
  • 2017: $2600
  • 2016: $2550
  • 2015: $2550
  • 2014: $2500
  • 2013: $2500

Prior to 2013, employers could independently set their own contribution limits. Then with the enactment of the Affordable Care act, the IRS was given the responsibility to set annual FSA contribution limits. These limits would increase year to year, adjusted for cost of living and inflation.
