The FSA Eligibility Scanner

The BuyFSA app comes with an FSA Eligibility Scanner for use in drugstores such as CVS and Walgreens. While you’re inside a store, you can scan barcodes that are usually on the back or underside of product packaging. Using the BuyFSA app, you can scan the code and it will tell you exactly which products are FSA-approved.

After scanning a product, there will be an “FSA-approved” or “FSA-ineligible” result. All of the scanned item barcodes that show as “FSA-approved” will transact if you bring them up to the counter at drugstores and grocery chains that accept FSA cards. Additionally, any products that are on BuyFSA.com will appear after scanning and you can purchase those items from your phone with your FSA card.

Tip: Add your FSA card to your mobile wallet just like you would with a regular credit card. This will make it super easy to buy any item listed on BuyFSA.com with Apple Pay or Google Pay.

While you can use the BuyFSA app to scan any barcode to check for FSA eligibility, your FSA card will only transact in the stores listed below (or you can make your purchase on BuyFSA.com where all products are eligible to purchase with your FSA card). If you decide to make a purchase at a different store, you’ll need to pay with your personal credit card or cash and submit the receipt for reimbursement with your FSA administrator.
